Called Shots: Week 10

One of the biggest surges in this week’s rankings comes from Adam Lind, who I went over in a separate post yesterday.  While Lind has flown somewhat under the radar, Domonic Brown cannot help but steal the attention of the entire baseball world.  In his past 15 games Brown has gone absolutely bonkers, hitting .426 with a 1.539 OPS, 10 HR, 13 runs and 22 RBI, with 3 steals added on just for fun.  Out of nowhere Brown is up to 17 homers on the season with a line of .291/.329/.592 and a .301 ISO.  His walk rate is pedestrian at 5%, but you can’t blame the guy for taking his hacks.  His strikeout rate is more than reasonable at 18.7% and the walks are bound to rise as pitchers begin to fear him.  While there has been no luck in his batting average, his HR/FB rate of 31.5% is completely unsustainable.  Although Brown has regression written all over him, you don’t hit 17 HR in 57 games purely by chance.  For the remainder of the season, I have Brown ranked as the #42 overall offensive player.  Here is the rest of the top 100:

I heard he made his swing more Utley-like and is emphasizing pulling his hands through the zone quicker and shortening his swing as a result. It’ll be interesting to see if pitchers change the way they pitch to him.
